At KSPA, we offer ALL dancers an opportunity to be part of our KSPA Competition Dance Team. For more information on the KSPA Competition Dance Team, please call us at (573)888-DANCE. Pre-Ballet & Tap: This Creative Movement Class is designed for preschoolers ages 2 to 4. Through our Dance Magic, some basic ballet positions and steps will be learned. Students learn to use their bodies and imaginations while exploring their creativity on the dance floor. They will develop an awareness of music and rhythms and will begin to explore the many capabilities of their own bodies. Classes for ages 2 – 2nd grade Ballet require a specific leotard, tights and ballet slippers. Skirts, leg warmers, and sweaters are nice, but not required. Dancewear may be purchased inside our studio. Classical Ballet and Pointe: Ballet is a beautiful art form which requires dedication and discipline on the part of the student. Progress is made slowly, but the rewards are many. It is an excellent form of exercise for all ages, toning and strengthening the entire body, and helps to promote good posture and alignment. KSPA offers Beginning Ballet, Advanced Ballet, Pre- Pointe, and Pointe classes for students. Please speak with your instructor prior to enrolling for an evaluation of class placement. Classes for ages 2 – 2nd grade Ballet require a specific colored leotard. Specific Pink tights and pink leather ballet slippers are required for ALL Ballet classes. Pre-Pointe classes must purchase “Pre-Pointe Shoes” or “Demi-Pointe Shoes”. Pointe classes must purchase “Pointe Shoes". Please speak to your instructor prior to purchasing shoes. Skirts, leg warmers, and sweaters are nice, but not required. Hip Hop / Jazz: This beginner program allows students to take the most popular form of dance. Hip Hop class teaches fundamental jazz steps and combines the element of hip hop moves and contemporary music. We have found that the combination of jazz and hip hop is ideal. Students learn the necessary elements of jazz which are crucial to success in hip hop, but also get to learn hip hop moves which require the coordination and balance learned from jazz. Boys must wear black jazz pants with a white T-shirt and black socks. Girls wear a specific leotard with black jazz pants and tan tights. Tan oxford Jazz shoes which tie are required. Skirts, leg warmers, and sweaters are nice, but not required. Cheerleading: This introductory class to cheerleading provides children ages 5 and up an advantage in future cheerleading. The major focus of the class is technique, which is extremely important later in High School and College Cheerleading. Participants will learn the basics of Cheerleading, which include: motion technique, jumps, 8-counts, chants, cheers and beginning level tumbling drills. Students must wear a pink leotard with black jazz pants. Pink Dance Sneakers with white socks must be worn. KSPA occasionaly offers these classes during the spring sessions. Lyrical: This class is for students who have had some ballet and jazz training. Lyrical dance tells a story. It is a technical form of ballet with the expression and interpretation of jazz. It is strongly recommended that jazz and ballet classes be taken in addition to this class. Students will perform a lyrical dance in the recital. Dance attire is the same as the student’s ballet class. Foot-Undez by Capezio or a similar Sandal / Foot Thong must be worn. Tap: The Encyclopedia Britannica definition for tap dance is: A style of American theatrical dance using precise rhythmical patterns of foot movement and audible foot tapping. It is derived from the traditional clog dance of northern England, the jigs and reels of Ireland and Scotland, and possibly the rhythmic foot stamping of African dances. Popular in 19th-century minstrel shows, versions such as "buck-and-wing" (danced vigorously in wooden-soled shoes) and "soft-shoe" (shoes) developed as separate techniques; by 1925 they had merged, and metal taps were attached to shoe heels and toes to produce a more pronounced sound. The dance was also popular in variety shows and early musicals. [1] We define tap as Pure Fun! Come join our Adult or Children's classes. You will enjoy it no matter what your age!
